Rent software instead of buying

Flexibility is the be-all and end-all on the path to digital transformation. Whether in business or in the modern healthcare sector: A first step towards greater flexibility is the decision to get rid of time-consuming legacy burdens, such as permanent system maintenance. This means no longer buying software, but renting it as a subscription. This means that your applications are always “up to date” and you save computing capacity and working time. You can also easily add new services as and when you need them. Here we present two subscription models that you can now book with new-win:

What is SaaS?

When you conclude a SaaS contract, instead of buying software you buy a service that enables you to use the software conveniently.

SaaS always runs as a cloud solution. This means that your software provider makes its software available to you via a cloud . You can access the software via a link and use it without having to install the software on any of your local servers or PCs. This saves computing power and makes installations and local updates obsolete.

The applications used are automatically and regularly updated for you by the software provider. With these updates, which are free of charge for you, errors are corrected and modernizations of the software are continuously installed. Which other services are available to you and to what extent are regulated in the Service Level Agreement contract .

SaaS contracts are often scalable in terms of size (e.g. number of users), term (monthly or annual contract) and/or scope (services and functionality).

Why is SaaS the ideal solution?

  • You remain flexible: With SaaS, you remain flexible because you only rent the software and do not buy it.
  • You reduce costs: You save on investment and depreciation costs for the provision of in-house infrastructure.
  • You become mobile: The tool can be accessed from any networked end device and from any location (even when on the move!)
  • You save time: the simple access makes the introduction and configuration of the software solutions uncomplicated.
  • You are safe in the knowledge that the specialization and professionalism of the cloud operators can guarantee the highest level of security for your data and protection against cyber attacks.
  • You are relieved: The software you use is always up to date without you having to worry about it. Maintenance contracts are a thing of the past.
  • You benefit in several ways: You benefit from optimizations such as new functions and corrections suggested by other users of the same software.

What should you know about SaaS?

SaaS: Data hosting in the cloud

Your software provider has installed the software you want to use on a virtual server in a cloud. All data that you save when using the software is stored in the same place. There is a binding contract between the software provider and the cloud operator, which guarantees the security of your data. new-win relies on a cloud partner from Switzerland.

SaaS: Software updates

With the SaaS contract, the software provider guarantees that the software will always be kept up to date. You can report errors or ideas for improvement to the software provider at any time. The software manufacturer will correct the errors (bugs) and implement optimizations after the test has been completed. This creates a new software version. The old version of the software will be replaced by the new one as part of a periodic update and will be made available to you. If there are urgent errors to be corrected, updates can also be carried out outside of the usual periodicity.

In any case, you will be informed about the timing and the changes (release notes) relevant to you before the updates. You may have new functionalities available after the update that you would like to use.

SaaS: Software implementation

You are provided with standard software that can be configured according to your needs. Your software provider will work with you to parameterize the tool so that it is optimally tailored to your requirements. The software provider will provide you with documentation on how to use the software. If you require additional support for the internal introduction of the software, you can also obtain this from the software provider in accordance with the agreed conditions.

SaaS: Support

According to the software provider, if you have any questions, support is available to you and knows the special features of your applications. If an error is detected in the software, it is processed according to the Service Level Agreement. Depending on the type, severity, and complexity of the error, different remediation times apply.

If you would like to have something optimized in the software, do not hesitate to let us know. Whether the optimization they propose is integrated into the solution is always decided by the software provider.

Is a cloud solution not an option for you?

There are companies that are obliged to do without cloud solutions due to certain compliances. This is why a number of software providers – including new-win – also offer their solutions as “On Premise” software subscriptions. The term “on premise” stands for on-site installation.

What is an on-premise software subscription?

Your company provides the infrastructure for the installation and operation of the software solution. The software vendor installs the software on your internal servers and accesses it to configure and update the software. This is done via a remote connection, which must also be made possible by your IT.

All processes from installation to configuration and introduction to regular updates of the software are somewhat slowed down with on-premise solutions in contrast to the SaaS solution.

As with SaaS, this contract model does not involve the purchase of licenses or maintenance contracts because you rent the software and the software provider is responsible for maintaining it. All services that are outside of software maintenance are contractually regulated in the Service Level Agreement.
